Finding Your Birth Time

Recording of birth times varies from country to country.

For example, in Germany information about the birth time is held at the Standesamt where the birth was registered but is not included on the birth certificate.

In Scotland birth times have been recorded on the birth certificate since 1855 (unless you are adopted).

In the rest of the UK the time is not recorded on the birth certificate unless you are a twin. Some hospitals do keep records of birth times for many years so it is often worth contacting them.

Parents' memories are not always accurate, but you may find the time has been noted in a birthday book. It's not a disaster if you can't find your birth time.
Although the interpretation won't be as complete without it, a great deal of useful information can still be had using the birth date alone.
