10th November 2016 in Amsterdam with Faye Blake and Zelda Hall

Date: November 10, 2016

Time: 10:30 – 17:00

Location: Amsterdam

Another of our workshops in the ‘She Who Dares’ series for all women.

Jane Ridder-PatrickZelda Hall and Faye Blake will be guiding you to gain clarity on…

Where did I come from? How has my early life shaped me?

What am I aiming for in life?

And how are these two things linked? How does my past affect where I am heading in life?

Jane’s talk: Meet the Ancestors

genealogy

The emotional soil that we were rooted in as children has a profound impact on almost every area of our lives. Were your longings nourished or frustrated? What was encouraged and what was frowned upon? What was most emphasised or suppressed – feelings, ideas, identity or security? We each draw on long tangled threads of our forebears’ experiences and in this session we will explore the tap-root of our ancestral trees to discover the wellspring of our motivations, challenges and approach to the world of achievement.

Faye’s Talk: Going somewhere?

aim-high
Faye will look at direction in life. What are your desired goals? And how can an understanding of your background help you plot a course to enable you to reach them? Astrological symbolism can help you discover and enhance your reputation. What do you wish to be known for? What will be your legacy? But what happens when you change country? We will also investigate how a change of location can give the opportunity to redirect and refocus your life – especially when it comes to your career.

Zelda’s Talk: Being embodied in the world

The world needs women who are unafraid to embrace their true power.

Lurching/Caught between the expectations in our upbringing and the norms of the outside world, staying grounded in our authenticity/integrity can take some doing. As women we may find that simply having a female body leaves us open to all sorts of criticism and demands, and sometimes even traumatic violations.

margaret-thatcher-cartoon-englehart

We may find ourselves abandoning the feminine aspect of our nature to ‘get ahead’.  Whether it is ‘power dressing’ in a pinstripe suit, having voice training to sound more masculine (think Margaret Thatcher) or being cold and heartless to avoid the accusation of being overemotional.

We will look at how to draw strength from our pasts and find the courage to create our futures as we negotiate the world as women while staying fully grounded in our bodies.

Lecture: The Marginalisation of Astrology in Seventeenth-Century Scotland

Astrology was a core component of the university curriculum in Scotland until the last quarter of the seventeenth century, with a spike of increased interest shown in it in the 1670s. Just over two decades later, however, by 1700, astrology’s place in academia had been irrevocably lost and the topic had largely become an object of derision, an attitude that has persisted in much of mainstream thinking to this day. This talk will investigate the reasons for the marginalisation of astrology in the late seventeenth century and look at the transits that accompanied this.

Lecture: On Making Your Life Agree with the Heavens

This talk is inspired by a book of the same title by the influential Italian Renaissance scholar, priest and astrologer Marsilio Ficino. It will explore both traditional and 21st century techniques for living pro-actively and more fully aligning ourselves to the heavenly kaleidoscope. This leads to rich and often unsuspected benefits to be tapped for ourselves and those around us, as well as planet earth itself– and deepens our understanding of the subtleties of astrology at the same time. Carpe diem!

Staying Well with Medical Astrology

Just because you have a configuration that is typical for a given health condition, it certainly does not mean that you will get it. In this workshop we will look at several major groups of diseases and, using the insights of astrology, explore ways that could help prevent unnecessary illness and promote good health. Participants will also be shown how to investigate and work positively with their own charts configurations to help them aim towards optimal health

Exploring the IC

This evening we will explore the IC/MC axis which describes in the deepest sense where we are coming from and where we are going, our private lives versus our public lives. The often neglected IC, along with fourth house planets and ruler, describes the parental and ancestral issues that mould and sometime scar us from womb to tomb and it is the source and moderator of our potency and presence in the world. The MC describes the qualities we need to develop in order to move towards our unique contribution to society. This may begin as an extension of our parents’ goals, ambitions and achievements but eventually we must extract ourselves from the matrix of our early childhood conditioning and find our own place in the world.

Science and the Stars

For those who have experienced serious astrology, it is a priceless tool for helping us understand ourselves and our world. For most academics, scientists and theologians who are unfamiliar with it, astrology is dismissed with ridicule as vulgar, irrational and ungodly. Based on research for her PhD in History, Jane will examine astrology’s fall from grace in the seventeenth century and the roots of this extraordinary prejudice that still has repercussions today.
